Formats

Age Division Formats:

We use the USTA recommended ROGY system for our leagues:

8 and under Red Ball
Ball: Transition Red Ball
Court: 36 foot court.  Baseline is the 78 foot court doubles sideline.  Service line is the singles sideline.  A net is put up to make these courts.
Racquets: We recommend 21 and 23 inch racquets for this division.
Ages: 5-8 years old

 10 and under Orange Ball
Ball: Transition Orange Ball
Court: 60 foot court.  We create this by putting down tape for a baseline which is halfway between the 78 foot court baseline and the 78 foot court service line.  We sometimes put singles sidelines in too, which is 3 feet inside the 78 foot court singles sidelines.
Racquets: We recommend 25 inch racquets for this division.
Ages: 9-10 years old.  We will sometimes take more experienced 8 year olds as well.

11-14 Green Ball
Ball: Transition Green Balls and Yellow Balls
Court: Full 78 Foot court.
Racquets: We recommend 26 or 27 inch racquets for this division.
Ages: 11-14 years old.  We will sometimes take more experienced 10 year olds as well.

Match Formats:

We will sometimes use different formats for our matches depending on the division and the ability level of our players.  These will include:

Level 1: 2 at Net, 2 at Baseline Format.  2 players from a team are at the baseline, 2 players from a team are at the net.  An instructor will feed or toss balls to the baseline team.  Then the instructor will feed or toss balls to the net team.  A player must get the ball in the court to start the point.  They will switch positions until a team wins 7 points, which will win a game.  8 and under division needs 2 games to win a match.  10 and under and 11-14 need 4 games to win a match.  This format is mostly used for Red Ball division.

Level 2: 2 at Baseline, 2 at Opposite Baseline Format.  2 players from a team are at the baseline, 2 players from a team are at the other baseline.  An instructor will feed or toss balls to one team.  Then the instructor will feed or toss balls to the other team.  A player must get the ball in the court to start the point.  They will keep playing until a team wins 7 points, which will win a game.  8 and under division needs 2 games to win a match.  10 and under and 11-14 need 4 games to win a match.  This format can be used for all division and is recommended for players having trouble with serving.

Level 3: 2 at Baseline, 2 at Opposite Baseline Serving Format.  2 players from a team are at the baseline, 2 players from a team are at the other baseline.  A player will have 3 chances to get a serve in either service box to either player, which will start the point.  In the 8 and under division, players take turns serving until a team wins 7 points which wins the game.  and needs 2 games to win a match.   In the  10 and under and 11-14 formats, 1 player will serve an entire game switching between deuce and ad side courts but can still hit the ball in either box.  A player needs 4 points to win a game and a team needs 4 games to win a match. This format can be used for all division and is recommended for players who can serve consistently.

Level 4: 1 Up, 1 Back on Both Sides Format.  The serving player and returning player are at opposite baselines.  Their partners are at the net.  A player will have 2 chances to get a serve in the diagonal service box to the returning player, which will start the point.  In the 8 and under division, players take turns serving until a team wins 7 points which wins the game.  and needs 2 games to win a match.   In the  10 and under and 11-14 formats, 1 player will serve an entire game switching between deuce and ad side courts.  A player needs 4 points to win a game and a team needs 4 games to win a match. This format is mostly recommended for the 11-14 division, but can be used for advanced players in the 8u and 10u division.
